Abstract

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway is the first high-speed railway in China that adopts CTCS-3+ATO technology.After the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics,operating departments identified several issues with the ATO system,such as ineffective intervention during vehicle slippage,insignificant energy savings at intermediate stations,and frequent traction-braking switching with delays when entering Chongli Station.To address these issues,improvements were made by incorporating skilled train drivers' experience.During coasting,the system avoided increasing braking levels to prevent exacerbating slippage caused by high-level braking.After coasting,the ATO system adopted an early braking deceleration strategy to mitigate the effects of train coasting.For intermediate stations,the energy-saving control curves were calculated based on the scheduled arrival time of the final station in the operation plan,combined with additional track data transmitted from the ground.When entering a station,the train operated at a planned speed of 60 km/h,and upon receiving a siding entry signal,the train speed was controlled according to the actual speed limit of the turnout.Finally,an integrated ATO system test platform was established in the laboratory for thorough testing and verification of the optimization scheme.The test results showed that after detecting vehicle slippage,the optimized ATO applied low-level braking to decelerate the train,reducing slippage caused by high-level braking and aligning more closely with skilled train drivers' experience.The optimized ATO enhanced station passage efficiency and overall system energy savings.Furthermore,when entering Chongli Station,there was no frequent switching between traction and braking,and the actual arrival time was 6 seconds earlier compared to the scheduled arrival time in the operation plan.The proposed optimization scheme is reasonable,feasible,and meets the operational requirements of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway system.
