Infection Status and Distribution Characteristics of Cryptosporidium in Primates

Abstract
Cryptosporidium is a zoonotic pathogen infecting both primates and human beings,and poses a serious threat to public health as the former is the closest relative to the latter,which should be highly concerned.In order to identify the prevalence of Cryptosporidium in primates,investigate the potential risk of cross-species transmission and the possibility of infecting both animals and human beings,and to scientifically prevent and control any transmission,the status of Cryptosporidium infection in primates and its distribution characteristics were reviewed as a priority.The results showed that Cryptosporidium was prevalent in primates both at home and abroad,and its infection rate ranged from 0.5%to 19.0%in China,and from 0.5%to 27.6%in foreign countries.Obvious geographical and living environment differences were observed in Cryptosporidium infection in China,the infection rate was higher in captive primates under high density,but lower in those under field environment;crab-eating macaques and macaques,as the important experimental animal species,were specifically monitored and prevented from any Cryptosporidium infection in China.The infection rate of Cryptosporidium in primates in Africa was generally higher with a wide range than that in Europe and Asia.At least 11 species and multiple subtypes of Cryptosporidium had been identified from primates,indicating a genetic diversity,and some of them were zoonotic;the dominant species were also different at home and abroad,for instance,C.hominis was dominant in China.The above results were great significance for researches on epidemiology and genetic characterization of Cryptosporidium infection.关键词
