Abstract

AIM To explore an outcome-based education(OBE)internship teaching model based on clinical problems for pharmacy students during hospital internships,as well as to evaluate its teaching effectiveness.METHODS The study used a non-synchronous control trial design,selecting undergraduate students who interned at the hospital's pharmacy department during different periods as research subjects.Students who interned from January 2021 to December 2022(n=18)served as the control group,accepting the traditional internship teaching model.Students who interned from January 2023 to August 2024(n=18)served as the observation group,adopting an OBE internship teaching model based on clinical problems.The internship period for both groups was 5 weeks.After the internship,a theoretical exam was conducted using the same examination paper,and instructors evaluated each intern across 5 dimensions.SPSS 20.0 was used to compare the theoretical scores and evaluation scores of the 2 groups.RESULTS The theoretical scores for the control and observation groups were 82.28±6.88 and 86.72±4.94,respectively,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The total evaluation scores for the control and observation groups were 80.28±3.30 and 88.39±3.31,respectively,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.01).CONCLUSION The OBE teaching model enhances pharmacy students' theoretical knowledge,teamwork,logical thinking,problem-solving,and knowledge acquisition skills,increasing interns' motivation and initiative.The OBE teaching model based on clinical problems deserves to be used in the hospital-based professional teaching of pharmacy interns.
