Elabela's expression and its importance in serum and placenta of those suffering from severe preeclampsia

Abstract
[Objective]To examine the concentrations of elabela and angiotensin Ⅱ protein J receptor(APJ)in placental tissue of individuals diagnosed with severe preeclampsia,as well as to analyze the impact of elabela on the development of preeclampsia.[Methods]From October 2020 to March 2021,30 pregnant women with preeclampsia were collected as the study group.The ELISA technique was employed for the identification of elabela expression in the bloodstream,while immunohistochemical analysis was utilized to observe the presence and partial quantification of elabela and its receptor APJ protein in placental tissue.[Results]Findings revealed elevated levels of elabela in both peripheral blood serum and cord blood serum of expectant mothers diagnosed with severe preeclampsia compared to those in the control cohort(P values all<0.05).Immunohistochemical staining results showed low expression of elabela and APJ proteins in placental trophoblasts of severe preeclampsia.In the group of severe preeclampsia,the levels of elabela in peripheral serum and cord blood were negatively correlated with neonatal birth weight and placental weight,respectively.The amounts of elabela detected in placental tissue showed a positive relationship with both neonatal birth weight and placental weight(P values<0.05).[Conclusion]Therefore,it can be concluded that there are notable variations in elabela levels in peripheral blood,umbilical cord blood,and placental tissues of individuals with preeclampsia,suggesting the involvement of elabela in the pathophysiology of this condition.关键词
