Research advances in Chinese medicinal herb ecological cultivation under forest

Abstract
Chinese herbal medicines serve as the cornerstone for revitalizing traditional Chinese medi-cine.In recent years,significant progress has been achieved in China in the large-scale cultivation of medicinal herbs.However,the sustainable development of this industry faces critical challenges,includ-ing high yields but poor quality,frequent outbreaks of diseases and pests,pesticide residues,continuous cropping obstacles,and land competition with crops.This review examines the causes of these challeng-es from the perspectives of medicinal plant breeding,cultivation practices,and pest and disease manage-ment.To address these issues,a novel agroforestry strategy that leverages biodiversity and ecological balance to enhance sustainability in medicinal herb production was proposed.As a case study,we high-light the ecological theories,key technologies,and applications of the under-forest cultivation model of Chinese ginseng Panax notoginseng.Furthermore,we discuss the practical applications and large-scale promotion of this model,along with the challenges encountered during its implementation.By integrat-ing biodiversity and ecological balance into medicinal herb cultivation,the under-forest ecological culti-vation strategy provides a promising pathway for the high-quality and sustainable development of Chi-nese herbal medicines.关键词
