Abstract

Ground effect is the most common external environmental influence during the vertical landing of a flying car.To study its impact on the aerodynamic characteristics of flying cars during vertical landing,a numerical simulation of a single-ducted fan and the entire vehicle at different heights above the ground is conducted using the multiple reference frame method.Results show between h/D=2~h/D=0.5,the ducted fan is affected by the ground effect,with the maximum variation in total lift of the ducted fan being 6.92%,the maximum variation in rotor lift being 18.3%,and the maximum variation in duct lift being 37.3%.The increase in rotor lift is due to the rise in environmental pressure while the decrease in duct lift is attributed to the reduction in the total airflow of the ducted fan and the decrease in effective angle of attack.Within the range of h/D=2~h/D=0.75,the maximum variation in total lift is 7.08%for a blunt body flying car and 18.98%for a streamlined flying car.It is found that the lift variation is greater for the streamlined vehicle compared to the blunt-body vehicle,with a greater influence from ground effects.
