Abstract

Urumqi is located at the southern edge of the Junggar Basin and is an important center city in northwest China.Due to the numerous local mines and frequent urban construction,it is highly susceptible to surface subsidence thus causing harm to the ecological environment,prop-erty safety,and people's life.Taking the 32 views Sentinel-1A data from January 6,2023 to January 25,2024 as the study data,we used the time-series InSAR technique to obtain the surface subsidence monitoring data in the urban area of Urumqi and its surrounding areas.The results show that the subsidence areas are mainly distributed in the mining areas around the city and the Urumqi International Airport,which is under expansion.Among them,the radar line-of-sight deformation rate of the Urumqi International Airport reaches 104 mm/a,the three largest subsidence areas in Midong and Shuimogou districts reach 125 mm/a,117 mm/a,and 110 mm/a,respectively,and the radar line-of-sight deformation rate of subsidence areas in Shayibak District reaches 42 mm/a.Analyzing the satellite image maps of subsidence area and related data,we found that the expansion of airport runway and the construction of T4 terminal were the main reasons for the subsidence of the Urumqi International Airport,and resource exploitation is the main reason for the subsidence of urban areas around Urumqi City.
