Abstract

Objective:To investigate the diagnostic efficacy of spectral CT imaging in traumatic vertebral bone marrow edema across different age groups,evaluating its sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy,particularly in elderly patients.Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 120 patients with vertebral fractures or suspected fractures treated at our hospital from April 2023 to April 2024.All patients underwent both spectral CT and MRI scans.They were divided into three age groups:young(15~39 years),middle-aged(40~64 years),and elderly(≥65 years).The diagnostic efficacy of spectral CT was assessed in each age group using ROC curves,and the relative water content of bone marrow edema was compared between the groups.Results:The sensitivity and accuracy of spectral CT in diagnosing bone marrow edema were significantly higher in the elderly group compared to the younger and middle-aged groups(P<0.05).The relative water content of bone marrow edema in each group was significantly higher than that of non-edematous vertebrae(P<0.001).Conclusion:Spectral CT demonstrates high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing traumatic vertebral bone marrow edema across different age groups,with notably superior diagnostic performance in elderly patients.Spectral CT serves as a valuable tool for assessing bone marrow edema,providing more accurate imaging support for clinical practice.
