Exploration and Development Status of Global Lithium Resources and Overview of Typical Foreign Lithium Deposits

Abstract
This work aims to comprehensively understand the global distribution of lithium resources and the characteristics of the lithium industry,and to support overseas lithium exploration,development,and strategic acquisitions in line with China's"Going Global"strategy and the"Belt and Road"Initiative.We systematically analyzed global lithium geological exploration data and academic research,and examined the spatial distribution patterns of lithium resources,with a focus on three industrially significant types of lithium deposits:pegmatite type,salt lake brine type,and clay type.Key findings include:(1)Global lithium resources exhibit significant heterogeneity in distribution.Pegmatite-type deposits are widespread,brine-type deposits are concentrated in the South American Lithium Triangle,the Tibetan Plateau,and the west coast of North America,while clay-type deposits are primarily found in the North American Cordillera orogenic belt.(2)Case studies reveal notable geological differences among major deposits,including Australia's Greenbushes,Zimbabwe's Bikita,and the Democratic Republic of Congo's Manono-Kitolo(pegmatite-type);Chile's Atacama and Bolivia's Uyuni(brine-type);and Mexico's Sonora(clay-type).(3)Industry trends show that global lithium exploration investment reached $467 million in 2022,with Australia accounting for 49%of global production in 2021.Major lithium companies are distributed across resource-rich countries(e.g.,Bolivia,Chile)and technologically advanced nations(e.g.,China,the U.S.).The study concludes that pegmatite and brine-type deposits still hold significant exploration potential,particularly in Central-Southern Africa and Afghanistan for pegmatite-type resources.关键词
