Abstract

[Objective]The changes in key nutrient contents during composting fermentation of pig fermented mattress materials treated with nitrogen retaining agents were investigated to provide a theoretical basis for their application in the production of organic fertilizer from pig fermented mattress materials.[Method]Thermophilic aerobic composting was adopted by adding three nitrogen retaining agents(ferrous sulfate,humic acid,and calcium phosphate)to pig fermented mattress materials for secondary fermentation,and then the physical-chemical index during the composting process were measured to evaluate the feasibility of these agents in optimizing compost quality.[Result]All three nitrogen retaining agents effectively extended the high-temperature phase to 5-7 days.At the end of fermentation,key parameters for treatments with ferrous sulfate,humic acid,and calcium phosphate were within ideal ranges,with pH of 6.41-6.61,electrical conductivity(EC)of 1 578.33-1 699.00 μS/cm,germination index(GI)of 87.50%-104.69%,moisture content of 28.74%-32.20%,and organic matter of 35.52%-40.82%.Ferrous sulfate treatment exhibited the longest high-temperature duration(7 days),highest GI(104.69%),and highest total nutrient content(8.91%),with all other parameters within optimal ranges.[Conclusion]Among the three nitrogen retaining agents tested,ferrous sulfate demonstrated the most effective performance in enhancing the composting process of pig fermented mattress materials.
