Effect of SRB mediated sulfate reduction on uranium migration in the decommissioned mining areas of acid leaching uranium mines

Abstract
The groundwater,roof and drill core samples were taken from a decommissioned mining area of a sulfuric acid in situ leach uranium mine in Xinjiang,and the SRB bacterial solution was obtained by enrichment and expansion culture.Then the orthogonal test was used to determine the best conditions for the reduction of SO42-by the SRB solution by expansion culture.Under these conditions,the SRB solution was injected into the horizontal test column with the underground water and core to study the effect of SRB mediated sulfate reduction on the uranium migration in groundwater.The results showed that when pH was 6,the concentration of SO42-was 2 500 mg·L-1,the carbon source was ethanol,the amount of carbon source was 0.3%of the volume of the solution,and the inoculated amount of SRB was 10%of the volume of the solution,the reduction effect of SO42-by SRB was the best.After 40 days of reaction in the SRB liquid injection horizontal test column,the concentrations of SO42-and U(Ⅵ)in groundwater decreased from the initial 2 500 and 2.58 mg·L-1 to 182.32 and 0.023 mg·L-1,respectively,and the removal rates were 92.70%and 99.10%,respectively,meeting the relevant discharge standards.At this time,the abundance of microorganisms Desulfotomaculum with U(Ⅵ)reduction function in the test column was as high as 82%.In the test columns A1,A2,B1 and B2,SRB had a significant reduction effect on uranium,and the ratio of U(Ⅵ)to U(Ⅳ)in the core sample after the reaction was 1∶1.The study showed that SRB bacterial solution could reduce sulfate and U(Ⅵ)in groundwater with pH 6 of the decommissioned mining area of acid in situ leach uranium mine,and U(Ⅵ)is deposited on the core sample after reduction,effectively impeding the migration of U(Ⅵ)in groundwater.关键词
