Abstract

A prefabricated reinforced welded hollow spherical joint was proposed to improve the reinforcement construction convenience of welded hollow spherical joints.To study the seismic performance of the reinforced welded hollow spherical joints,an unreinforced joint,two traditional welded reinforced joints,and three prefabricated reinforced joints were designed and subjected to low-cycle loading tests.The results show that under cyclic loading,the failure modes of joints reinforced with welded rib plates are mainly the tube-ball connection fracture and steel tube fracture.The failure modes of prefabricated reinforcement joints are mainly fracture of the weld at the tube-ball connection.Compared with the unreinforced joints,the welded double rib reinforcement method increases the tensile stiffness and tensile bearing capacity of joints by 29.0%and 44.8%,respectively.When using the prefabricated reinforcement method,these indicators are increased by 14.8%and 22.0%,respectively.The displacement ductility coefficients of the three types of joints are all less than 3.0,and according to the ductility classification standard,they belong to brittle joints.Both welded rib plates and prefabricated reinforcement methods can improve the energy dissipation capacity of the welded hollow spherical joints by delaying the fracture process of the connection weld seam between the steel tube and the hollow spherical.The pretension of bolts and the geometric dimensions of reinforced components have a significant impact on the energy dissipation capacity of joints.When the width-to-thickness ratio of the web plate of the reinforced component is reduced from 10.0 to 5.0,the average strain energy of the joint increases by about 21.0%.
