Rolston's Wilderness Aesthetics:The Generative Mechanism and Affective Structure
摘要
Abstract
The concept of"wilderness"is particularly striking in Rolston's environmental aesthetics. In fact,in"From Beauty to Duty:Aesthetics of Nature and Environmental Ethics",Rolston explicitly articulated the idea of"aesthetics gone wild".In Rolston's view, wilderness,as a self-organizing and self-regulating ecosystem,is not only the source of ecological value but also the grounding site of aesthetic emotions. The"wild turn"in Rolston's aesthetics can be revealed through two dimensions:the mechanism of wilderness aesthetics and its affective structure.Unlike general environmental ethics,Rolston's environmental ethics has a strong aesthetic meaning. In wilderness aesthetics, emotion is not singular, but structural, and the affective structure is interactive and dynamic, rather than static and rigid. From awe and respect, care and listening, experience and empathy, appreciation and sympathy, gratitude and compassion,to responsibility and justice, duty and reverence—what connects these elements is the"bridge"of emotion.Based on the interactive structure of emotions evoked by wilderness, the viewer ultimately moves towards love and respect for the community of life.关键词
