Four Misunderstandings,Illusions,and Transcendences in Traditional Ethical Consciousness:An Interpretation of Holmes Ralston's Environmental Ethics
摘要
Abstract
Holmes Rolston is an internationally renowned environmental ethicist.His work Environmental Ethics contains the ecological ethical wisdom of"poetically inhabiting the earth".Rolston revealed the four major misconceptions and illusions existing in people's traditional ethical consciousness.At the epistemological level,it merely highlights the ethnic groups of people in the ecosystem,restricting the space for people's cognition.At the level of axiology,it merely stresses the value of human beings(intrinsic value).In the ethical relationship among humans,nature and society,only interpersonal ethical relationships are emphasized.Furthermore,through the semantic level of ethical interpretation,the aforementioned misconceptions and illusions are further solidified.On this basis,Rolston further explored from the aspects of ontology,axiology,ethical relations and ethics-semantics how to transcend these four major misconceptions and illusions and inhabit the Earth poetically.He pointed out that without a world full of resources and an ecosystem,it would be impossible for human life to exist.Thus,human beings should think about problems from the perspective of the Earth and objectively regard the Earth as a constantly evolving ecosystem.Re-examing Rolston's Environmental Ethics not only helps us further understand the rich connotations of Marx and Engels'eco-ethical philosophy and the profound meaning of"man and nature forming a community of life",but also has important implications for the further development of environmental ethics and ecological ethics,the promotion of China's ecological civilization process and the construction of a beautiful China,and the promotion of harmonious coexistence of man and nature.关键词
