Abstract
Zhang Guruo's translation of Shakespeare's long poem Venus and Adonis portrays goddess Venus as a beautiful lady who pur-sues love with great courage,passion and persistence.Venus tried to win Adonis'love by means of temptation,persuasion and force,and suffered bitterness when she was refused,terror and panic when Adonis went to hunting the boar.Sorrowful and disheartened when Adonis was killed,she was no hesitant to immure herself.In this translation of Zhang Guruo,the use of many descriptive details rein-forces the vividness of images.Linguistically,linguistic expressions and rhetoric devices of Chinese literary tradition are employed ex-tensively,such as allusions,idioms,four-character words,overlapping words,word combination and symmetrical structures,etc.For the idiomatic translation insisted by Zhang Guruo,the image of Venus is obviously domesticated.关键词
