Abstract

Gel particles can be used in fractured low-permeability reservoirs for flow diversion and enhance oil recovery,and it is important to carry out accurate simulation and analysis of the flow and migration patterns and understand the controlling factors of the process.In this study,numerical simulations integrated with laboratory experiments were conducted to investi-gate the migration and plugging processes of gel particles in reservoir porous media.Initially,the flow field data were ob-tained by solving the Navier-Stokes equations using a finite element method.The migration and collision behaviors of gel par-ticles were characterized through Newton̍s law and a linear elastic model,while fluid-particle coupled flow was analyzed via a drag force model.Based on a linear expansion model,dual factors"shear influence and flow duration"were incorporated to describe the gel particle swelling process,thereby facilitating mechanistic analysis of particle migration and plugging.Key controlling factors in the injection process were identified,and optimal injection parameters for the gel particles were deter-mined.The results indicate that the established numerical simulation model for gel particle flow diversion and enhancing oil recovery can achieve an average accuracy exceeding 95%.The mass fraction of the injected gel particles was found to have the most significant impact on fracture plugging efficiency and oil recovery,with injection pressure and volume serving as sec-ondary important factors.The optimal injection parameters for gel particle flow diversion under core conditions were estab-lished,providing an effective tool and theoretical guidance for field applications of the technique.
