Abstract

In the process of natural gas production,the wellhead devices will suffer erosion wears due to high velocity flow of gas and sands.It is usually assuming that,for erosion wear studies,the gas flow rate is associated with the position prone to wear,but actually,the position prone to most serious wear is often different from that with the maximum natural gas flow rate.In this study,the wear behavior of wellhead devices with different geometric shapes was investigated via analyzing the e-rosion wear mechanisms,and a numerical model of erosion wear was established according to the field conditions of gas injec-tion and production wells.Based on classical erosion wear models,a theoretical model of erosion wear was presented consid-ering the change of particle attack angle.The relationships between gas production volume,natural gas flow velocity,erosion wear rate and the shape of wellhead devices were analyzed.The results show that the maximum gas flow rate in a Y-type well-head device is less than that in a cross-type wellhead device under the same gas production condition,but the amount of ero-sion wear in the easily worn location is greater than that in a cross-type wellhead device,which can provide a theoretical basis for selecting the cross-type wellhead device to reduce erosion wear.
