Risk factors for hospital-acquired pressure injuries in elderly patients:a multicenter analysis

Abstract
Objective:To analyze the risk factors for hospital-acquired pressure injuries in elderly patients and provide references for preventing pressure injuries in elderly inpatients.Methods:We collected the electronic health records of elderly inpatients from January 1,2016,to December 31,2022,in six comprehensive hospitals in Chongqing,and assigned 489 patients who developed pressure injuries while in the hospital to the case group,and choose 1 956 matched controls who did not get pressure injuries while in the hospital from the same wards within the same time frame at a ratio of 1∶4.The potential risk factors were analyzed used Logistic regression analysis.Results:The multivariate analysis revealed that the independent risk factors for developing hospital-acquired pressure injuries in elderly patients included length of hospital stay,history of smoking,friction and shear forces,mobility,sensory perception,physical activity level,ability to obtain daily food,skin moisture,edema,consciousness disorders,white blood cell count,serum potassium,serum albumin,hypertension,diabetes,coronary disease,and lower extremity deep vein thrombosis(P<0.05).Conclusions:There are numerous risk factors for hospital-acquired pressure injuries in elderly patients.Nurses should pay attention to the mobility of elderly patients,ensure adequate nutritional supply,regularly monitor and assess skin integrity,identify high-risk factors at an early stage,and implement individualized preventive measures to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure injuries in elderly patients.关键词
