Abstract

In this paper,the intensive surface observations data in Gansu in the Qilian Mountains were utilized to objectively assess the precipitation data from Global Precipitation Measurement(GPM)using Threat Scores(TS),Consistency Indices(CI)and Critical Success Index(CSI).The results show that:(1)the GPM data can characterize the main spatial distribution of precipitation in different seasons in the Qilian mountains,and at the same time,the data underestimates the amount of light precipitation areas and overestimates the amount of heavy precipitation areas;(2)the observation data shows that the Qilian Mountains has the highest frequency of forming light rain,which is 85.95%,and the frequencies of medium rain,heavy rain and torrential rain are less frequent,which are 12.04%,1.89%and 0.1%,respectively;the GPM data detection results are consistent with the observations;(3)the GPM precipitation data can capture the diurnal variations of precipitation in summer and autumn,which is concentrated in the morning and nighttime,but performs poorly in characterizing winter precipitation diurnal cycles.Overall,GPM precipitation data can effectively characterize precipitation features under complex terrain in the Qilian Mountains.
