Abstract

Leveraging their advanced capabilities in knowledge processing and personalized learning support,large language models(LLMs)are progressively transforming the educational landscape.However,this technological advancement also gives rise to profound cultural conflicts.In cross-cultural and multicultural educational contexts in particular,the mismatch between the cultural biases embedded in neural networks and LLMs and the heterogeneous demands of diverse learners has become a critical factor con-straining their educational effectiveness.This study adopts a multidimensional analytical framework to examine the application of LLMs in education from both technological and cultural perspectives.It identifies and systematically explores three typical forms of cultural conflict,including those related to content("what to teach"),pedagogy("how to teach"),and technology("with what to teach").Based on these findings,the paper proposes several strategies to alleviate cultural tensions:harnessing the"world knowledge"encoded in LLMs,utilizing their parameterized knowledge structures,incorporating multilingual and multicultural corpora,developing cross-cultural evaluation and monitoring mechanisms,and establishing ethical guidelines for educational deployment.Furthermore,the study introduces a contrasting strategy—sovereign AI—as a response to the intricate dynamics between globalization and localization in the advancement of AI-driven education.Cultural conflict constitutes an unavoidable challenge in the educational application of LLMs,necessitating thoughtful and proactive engagement within global educational practices.Addressing these issues will enable LLMs to offer more inclusive and impactful educational support,while fostering intercultural dialogue and understanding through tech-nological innovation.
