Abstract

Using hourly data on net radiation flux and soil heat flux from gravel-mulched fields and desert grasslands in 2021,this study employs conventional meteorological statistical methods to compare and analyze the variation characteristics of these fluxes at different time scales and explores the energy balance components of different underlying surfaces.The findings are as follows:(1)The net radiation flux in both gravel-mulched fields and grasslands shows a pattern of being lower at the beginning and end of the year,with higher values in the middle.Overall,the net radiation flux in gravel-mulched fields is consistently higher than that in grasslands.The soil heat flux for both surfaces exhibits relatively stable variations.During spring and summer,the soil heat flux in gravel-mulched fields is lower than that in grasslands;however,this trend reverses in autumn and winter.(2)The monthly total net radiation flux in both gravel-mulched fields and grasslands exhibits an initial increase followed by a decrease,peaking in July and reaching its minimum in December and January,respectively.(3)The monthly average daily variations of net radiation flux and soil heat flux exhibit a unimodal distribution pattern.The daily peak of soil heat flux lags behind that of net radiation flux by 1-2 h.In gravel-mulched fields,the daily peak of net radiation flux is higher than that in grasslands,with significant differences observed across months,while the daily peak of soil heat flux shows relatively smaller differences.(4)Under different weather conditions,the diurnal variation characteristics of net radiation flux and soil heat flux differ between gravel-mulched fields and grasslands,with clear seasonal differences in their trends and amplitudes.The fluctuation amplitude shows:sunny>cloudy/dust/sandstorm>rainy/snowy days.
