Abstract

[Objective]Plain river network areas undertake important ecosystem service functions such as food supply,water conservation,habitat quality,and carbon sequestration services.However,their ecosystems have suffered the most obvious damage in the context of rapid urbanization and industrialization.As a typical plain river network area in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River,the study on the supply and demand of ecosystem services and the spatial identification of ecological protection and utilization in Dongting lake region is of great significance to the ecological protection,restoration and sustainable utilization of Dongting lake region and other similar regions.[Method]In this study,the sub-basins of the Dongting lake area were taken as the basic evaluation units,with GIS technology as the core.The InVEST model and other quantitative methods were adopted to count the mean supply and demand of water conservation,food service,habitat quality and carbon sequestration services in each sub-basin,and calculate the supply and demand ratio.Then,ecological protection zones and functional zones were delineated respectively based on the matching characteristics of ecosystem service supply and demand and the results of the supply and demand ratio.Finally,ecological sources were identified and integrated using the MSPA method and in combination with the supply of ecosystem services.On this basis,the types and areas of ecological protection and utilization spaces were comprehensively identified.[Result]1)Except for food services,no sub-basin was in a state of supply and demand balance for other functions;2)Four ecological protection zones,namely ecological maintenance zone,ecological conservation zone,ecological improvement zone and ecological restoration zone,and 145 main ecological functional zones were determined;3)A total of 24 integrated ecological sources were identified,with a total area of approximately 8 610.96 km²,accounting for 42.5%of the study area,mainly distributed in the central lake area,forest areas in the eastern,western and southern marginal zones,and some farmland areas in the eastern and western parts;4)167 ecological protection and utilization spaces were identified,among which the largest area has both ecological conservation goals and composite functions of water conservation,carbon sequestration,and biodiversity.[Conclusion]Targeted protection and utilization suggestions were proposed based on the identification results of ecological protection and utilization spaces in the Dongting lake area,providing guidance and reference for the ecological protection,restoration and sustainable utilization of the Dongting lake area and other similar plain river network areas.
