The Efficacy of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation(rTMS)in Elderly Depression Patients with Cognitive Impairment and Its Effects on Quality of Life and Sleep Quality

Abstract
Objective To investigate the efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS)in elderly pa-tients with depression-related cognitive deficits and its effects on quality of life and sleep quality.Methods Eighty-six elderly patients with depression and cognitive deficits admitted to Liyuan Hospital,Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology from June 2021 to June 2022 were randomly divided into two groups using a random number table:the conventional group(n=43,receiving conventional medication)and the research group(n=43,receiving rTMS in addition to medi-cation).The clinical efficacy,cognitive function scores(MoCA,DST,WCST),quality of life scores(GQOLI-74),and sleep qual-ity scores(PSQI)were compared between groups;adverse reactions were recorded.Results The total effective rate was higher in the research group(90.70％ vs 74.42％,P＜0.05).After treatment,both groups showed significant improvements:decreased HAMD-17 and PSQI scores,increased MoCA total scores,improved DST forward/backward/total scores,enhanced WCST per-formance(increased total responses/completed classifications/correct responses;decreased errors/persistent errors),and elevated GQOLI-74 dimensions scores(all P＜0.05).The research group demonstrated superior outcomes compared to the conventional group across all measures(HAMD-17,PSQI,MoCA,DST,WCST,GQOLI-74;all P＜0.05).Adverse reaction rates were 11.63％(research)vs 18.60％(conventional)(P＞0.05).Conclusions rTMS demonstrates significant efficacy in treating elderly patients with depression-related cognitive deficits,effectively improving depressive symptoms and cognitive deficits,enhancing quality of life,and alleviating sleep disorders.关键词
