Abstract

Fluorite and calcite are challenging to differentiate through the process of flotation due to the similarity of their surface physicochemical properties.The effect of the addition sequence of sodium phytate(SP)and sodium oleate(NaOl)on the flotation behaviour of the minerals was systematically investigated.The intrinsic mechanism of selective inhibition of the two minerals by SP was subsequently revealed through Zeta potential analysis,infrared spectral characterization and focused beam reflection measurement(FBRM).The results show that the inhibition effect of SP on calcite is stronger than that of fluorite,and the dosing mode of"NaOl+SP"is more effective in achieving the selective separation of the two minerals compared with"SP+NaOl".The chemical adsorption of SP on the calcite surface is stronger than that of fluorite,and the order of addition of chemicals differentially regulates its adsorption behavior.In the fluorite system,the pre-addition of NaOl can weaken the inhibition of SP,while the strong adsorption of SP on the calcite surface is basically unaffected by the order of addition and can effectively hinder the further adsorption of NaOl or even cause the desorption of the adsorbed NaOl.The order of addition of agents significantly alters the aggregation state of mineral particles.In the"NaOl+SP"mode,NaOl preferentially induces the formation of hydrophobic agglomerates of fluorite,while SP exhibits a limited dispersing effect on the particles.In the calcite system,SP dominates the dispersion of particles and inhibits their agglomeration behaviour.The disparity in the adsorption behaviours of SP on the surfaces of the two minerals,and the induced differences in the state of aggregation and dispersion of the mineral particles,contribute to the flotation and flotation separation of fluorite and calcite in the NaOl flotation system.
