Treatment of Hyperthyroidism-Induced Osteoporosis Based on the Theory of"Kidney Qi Heat"and Immune Disorder

Abstract
Osteoporosis(OP)is a severe complication of hyperthyroidism affecting the skeletal system.Immune disorder serves as a key pathological basis for the development of this disease,and the disease is often accompanied by abnormal expression of inflammatory cytokines and related signaling pathways,oxidative stress injury,and gut microbiota dysbiosis,which disrupt the bone-thyroid metabolism axis.The theory of"Kidney Qi Heat"originally describes the pathological process of kidney deficiency and heat stagnation leading to bone marrow depletion.Kidney Qi Heat has something in common with hyperthyroid-induced OP in case of chronic low grade inflammation,in the manifestation of deficiency,stagnation,and heat,as well as in the manifestation of pathological by-products such as phlegm,stasis,fire,and toxins during prolonged disease progression.The pathogenesis of the OP,therefore,can be summarized as kidney deficiency and essence depletion,stagnated heat internally abasing,phlegm-stasis interlocking,concurrent thyroid and bone disorders,lingering fire,and toxin formation at the extreme.Based on the correlation between the two,this paper integrates the"Kidney Qi Heat"theory with modern immunological research on hyperthyroid-induced OP to propose a treatment principle emphasizing replenishing kidney essence,relieving stagnation,clearing heat,eliminating phlegm and stasis,dissolving thyroid nodules,strengthening bones,subduing fire,and eliminating toxins.The focus is on immune homeostasis as the central mechanism to restore the physiological balance of the bone-thyroid axis,providing theoretical and clinical strategies for the prevention and treatment of hyperthyroid-induced OP using traditional Chinese medicine.关键词
