Abstract

Objective:To establish a comprehensive quantitative evaluation model for Lycium barbarum medicinal materials based on the polysaccharide content and the Entropy Weight-Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution(TOPSIS)model,providing a reference for the quality evaluation of Lycium barbarum medicinal materials and the selection of the best batches.Methods:Multiple batches of Lycium barbarum from different regions were collected and analyzed for polysaccharide extraction yield,monosaccharide composition,total sugar content,protein content,and uronic acid content.After the results were dimensionlessly normalized,the entropy weight-TOPSIS method was applied for comprehensive evaluation,and selection criteria were established.Results:The appearance of the different batches of Lycium barbarum showed no significant differences and conformed to the pharmacopoeia description.However,the yield,monosaccharide composition,and other indicators varied significantly between batches.According to the entropy weight method,total sugar content had the highest weight(29.73%)in the comprehensive evaluation index system,followed by arabinose content(22.50%),uronic acid content(13.74%),and protein content(11.65%).TOPSIS ranking and classification results showed that when the relative closeness(Ci)was≥0.6,the batch of Lycium barbarum was considered a high-quality source for polysaccharide extraction;when 0.5≤Ci<0.6,the batch was considered a medium-quality source;and when Ci<0.5,the batch was considered a low-quality source.Conclusion:Significant differences in polysaccharide quality were found between different batches and regions of Lycium barbarum.The entropy weight-TOPSIS method,based on comprehensive multi-indicator evaluation,enables rapid,efficient,and accurate selection of high-quality Lycium barbarum polysaccharide extracts,with broad applications in production and comprehensive quality evaluation.This method can also serve as a reference for the quality evaluation of other traditional Chinese medicinal materials or decoction pieces.
