Abstract

With the advantages of fast response speed,good arc extinguishing performance,and effective suppression of the impact of lightning impulse on power grid equipment,the multi-chamber parallel gap can serve as a supplement to lightning protection measures for distribution network lines.The multi-chamber parallel gap is different from the parallel gap.Its lightning impulse flashover path is complex,and the overall discharge characteristics of the device are not fully obtained,making it difficult to set the discharge gap reasonably.However,the improper setting of discharge gap will cause the failure of light-ning impulse flashover localization,resulting in arc burning insulator.In order to study the lightning im-pact flashover localization conditions for multi-chamber parallel gaps,the author simulated and analyzed the electric field non-uniformity of multi-chamber arc extinguishing structure.According to the simula-tion results,it is proposed to equate the multi-chamber arc extinguishing structure to a rod-rod air gap.And further carried out the lightning impact flashover test of the multi-chamber extinguishing structure,according to the lightning impulse 50%discharge voltage the lightning impulse obtained by the test,the calculation formula of the equivalent air spacing of the multi-chamber arc extinguishing structure is ob-tained by fitting.At last,the accuracy that adopting this calculation method to design the lightning impact flashover localization of multi-chamber parallel gap is verified by voltage-time characteristics test.The test results show that the lightning impact flashover can be located on the multi-chamber parallel gap after reasonably setting the length of the external series air gap according to the fitting calculation formula,so as to protect the insulator from arc burning.The calculation method proposed can be used for the selection of the external series air gap length in the overall structure of the 10 kV multi-chamber parallel gap.
