Abstract

Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC)is a major causative agent of diarrhea for neonatal livestock.Prolonged antibiotic use for treatment risks inducing bacterial resistance,so probiotics are preferred strategy for preventing and treating diarrhea in newborn animals.This study aimed to establish an ETEC-induced murine diarrhea model and investigate the therapeutic effects of Parabacteroides distasonis(Pd)using fluorescence quantitative PCR,Western blotting,ELISA,and immunofluorescence.Results demonstrated that Pd significantly reduced serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines(interleukin-8,C-reactive protein,and tumor necrosis factor-α)and suppressed their expression in intestinal tissues of ETEC-challenged mice.Furthermore,Pd upregulated both gene and protein expression of intestinal tight junction markers(Occludin,Claudin-1,and Zo-1)in ETEC-infected mice.These findings indicate that Pd alleviates ETEC-induced diarrhea by attenuating intestinal inflammation and enhancing intestinal barrier integrity,providing a theoretical basis for its application in preventing and treating neonatal livestock diarrhea.
