Abstract

When welding the cylindrical battery pole ears through ultrasonic torsion,there is a stress concentration phenomenon at the section mutation of the stepped deformation amplitude rod welding head,which is prone to fracture failure at large amplitudes.Based on the wave equation of torsional waves,stepped and index like composite amplitude rod welding head models are established,and COMSOL finite element software is used to compare and analyze parameters such as linear shear displacement amplification factor,maximum stress value,node position,and stress maximum point under the same design conditions.The output amplitude of the class index deformation amplitude bar welding head is 3.9µm lower than that of the step deformation amplitude bar welding head,and the maximum stress value is 99.6 MPa lower than that of the step deformation amplitude bar welding head.Impedance testing,amplitude testing,and welding testing are conducted on the developed index shaped composite amplitude rod welding head.The results show that the resonant frequency of the ultrasonic torsion welding system is 19 803 Hz,and the torsion amplitude under no-load is 9.2µm.The designed index shaped composite amplitude rod welding head meets the welding requirement of an average tensile strength greater than 50 N after welding.The index shaped composite amplitude rod welding head has a lower maximum stress value compared to the stepped shape,which extends its service life.
