Abstract

Taking a cylindrical floating production,storage,and offloading(FPSO)unit as a case study,optimized design and application of its inert gas and cargo tank venting system are discussed to enhance the system's safety,environmental performance,and economic efficiency.Firstly,the required volume of inert gas for the hull part is estimated based on the number of equipment operated simultaneously in the cargo oil system,and it is determined that the specifications of the two types of inert gas generators are both 5 200 m3/h.The specification parameters of the key valve components in the cargo oil tank ventilation system are also introduced in detail.Subsequently,the primary functions of the inert gas and cargo tank venting system are given,along with its operational mechanisms and principles under diverse operational conditions.In addition,combined with the uniqueness of the cylindrical FPSO structure and the experience and lessons learned from past design practices,improvement and innovation of this design in this system are elaborated.These insights serve as a pivotal reference and inspiration for future optimizations of FPSO inert gas and cargo tank venting systems.
