Speculating 'Public Heritage':Subject and Identity
摘要
Abstract
This article critically addresses the am-biguity surrounding the use of the term'public'in heritage research and practice.It offers a theoretical exploration of the relationship between heritage and the public sphere,the subjects involved in public heritage practices,the meaning of'public'within heritage practices,and the implications of public heritage.The article emphasises that the subjects and identities engaged in public heritage practices constitute a dynamic network of communal connec-tions and specific social relationships.It argues that the notion of 'public' in the 'public turn' of Euro-pean and US heritage studies differs significantly from its meaning in the Chinese context.Under-standing the nature of public heritage practices in China requires adopting 'the third realm' perspec-tive that transcends the framework of authorised heritage discourse and focuses on the creativity and agency of the public in heritage practices.关键词
