From Collective Labour to Sharing Heritage:Volunteer Workshop for Built Vernacular Heritage Conservation of Ruan Yisan Heritage Foundation

Abstract
Under the impact of rapid urbanisation and social changes,the conservation of built ver-nacular heritage is facing multiple challenges,in-cluding population decline,cultural discontinuity,and the erosion of traditional building craftsman-ship.In 2010,Shanghai Ruan Yisan Heritage Foundation and Union Réhabilitation et Entretien des Monuments et du Patrimoine Artistique in France jointly launched architectural heritage conservation volunteer workshops in China to explore a kind of public participation model that breaks professional barries.In these workshops,volunteers,guided by local artisans,engage in the conservation and restoration of vernacular archi-tecture through collective labour,thereby learning and transmitting traditional craftsmanship.This raises public awareness of heritage conservation and contributes to the establishment of public heritage.This article reviews over a decade of workshop practice to explore the public nature of and participation in the conservation of built ver-nacular heritage,and the distinctive role of collec-tive labour in shaping public heritage.It aims to provide new perspectives for the conservation of built vernacular heritage and the transmission of craftsmen's skills and spirit.关键词
