Baseball's Nostalgic Writing in The Great American Novel by Philip Roth
摘要
Abstract
The American Jewish writer Philip Roth's literary description of baseball in The Great American Novel should become a new entry point for current academic circles."Nostalgia"has become a core creative motif in Roth's writing about baseball and recall-ing the American national identity.Roth resorts to baseball's nostalgic reminiscence of American identity,focusing mainly on two as-pects:American religion with Jesus Christ as the core and American political ideals of democracy and freedom.Although the cruel so-cial reality has made all the beautiful nostalgic feelings about American identity in Roth's mind suddenly incomplete,his nostalgic writ-ing and reminiscence of national identity around baseball have undoubtedly become a primary premise for the study of The Great Ameri-can Novel today.关键词
