Abstract

Offshore floating photovoltaic platforms are subjected to various environmental loads,inclu-ding ice load which is a crucial factor in designing such platforms in icy regions.Ice load can lead to local damage or even structural failure.This study investigates the dynamic response and structural damage characteristics of an offshore floating photovoltaic platform under the influence of ice floe and brash ice,and develops a finite element model considering both flow and ice loads during sea-ice-sea current inter-action.The impact of level ice thickness and brash ice concentration on the overall dynamic response and pontoon damage of offshore floating photovoltaic structures is examined.The results demonstrate that level ice causes multiple impacts with the platform,with maximum impact force occurring during initial collision.The peak impact force increases non-linearly with increasing thickness but gradually decreases over time,eventually transforming into quasi-static thrust acting on the platform.Collisions result in plastic strain in the pontoon without any cracking occurrence.Brash ice accumulates around the platform due to sea current action,and there is a positive correlation between platform displacement and brash ice concentration.Pontoon damage is smaller compared to conditions involving ice floe impacts;however,mooring tension is greater.These research findings provide a scientific basis for optimizing overall de-sign and reinforcing local structures of offshore floating photovoltaic platforms in icy areas.
