Abstract

To quantify the impact of transport network development on economic growth at the level of city clusters,an evaluation index system for the transport network development of city clusters was constructed based on the scale,structural layout,balance,and traffic quality of the regional transport network.The population-weighted time circuity was proposed to replace the traditional layout index.Then,a two-way fixed effect model was established.Panel data from 130 cities in seven major city clusters in China from 2018 to 2022 was used for empirical analysis.The results show that the transport networks of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,Yangtze River Delta,and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei city clusters develop rapidly,while the Guanzhong Plain is relatively underdeveloped and experiences significant polarization within its inner cities.The transport network development of city clusters significantly promotes economic growth,and the influence coefficient presents an inverted"U"-shape distribution with the improvement of urban development.There are spatial spillover effects of transport network development on economic growth,and the spillover effects on neighboring areas are significantly higher than those on the local areas.The study provides a reference for investigating the impact of transport network system development of city clusters on economic growth.
