Synthesis of Two-dimensional Material/Magnesium Hydroxide Hybrid Materials and Their Effect on Flame Retardancy of Epoxy Resins

Abstract
Using two types of two-dimensional materials as substrates,graphene/magnesium hydroxide(G-PMH)and graphitic carbon nitride/magnesium hydroxide(g-PMH)hybrid materials were synthesized via a hydrothermal method.The study investigated the effects of these materials on the flame-retardant properties of epoxy resin and explored the flame-retardant enhancement mechanisms.The results showed that the addition of graphene and graphitic carbon nitride restricted the growth of magnesium hydroxide and enhanced its flame-retardant efficiency.Magnesium hydroxide transformed from hexagonal flakes with a size of 100 nm to circular discs with a size of 50 nm.When the mass fraction of the hybrid materials added was 3%,the improvement in the flame-retardant properties of epoxy resin by g-PMH was comparable to that by G-PMH.Compared to pure epoxy resin,the addition of G-PMH and g-PMH reduced the peak heat release rate,total heat release,peak smoke release rate,and peak carbon monoxide release rate of epoxy resin.关键词
