Single shearing tests on nailed Xinjiang poplar plywood-to-timber connections

Abstract
Light wood frame construction is an effective structural type for mitigating seismic damage in regions susceptible to high-intensity earthquakes,and nailed connections are essential for the stability of shear walls in wood structure.In this study,Xinjiang poplar was used to construct studs and structural panels employing the Laminated veneer lumber(LVL)method.Four different types of connections using nails and self-tapping screws were tested under single shearing.The results showed that the shear capacity of nailed connections was superior to screwed connections.Additionally,the shear capacity of the connections was 10.8%higher when loaded was applied perpendicular to the grain rather than parallel.Conversely,the failure displacement showed the opposite trend.Due to its brittle failure mode,relatively nails are suitable for connections.关键词
