Abstract
In classical political economy,"independent worker"refers to a worker who is not em-ployed by others and independently engages in production.After the May 4th New Culture Move-ment,this concept was initially accepted by the early CPC.In the early 1930s,in the class division of the Soviet area,a group of deindustrialists were regarded as"independent workers"to distinguish them from the"proletariat".However,in order to unite handicraftsman and expand the scope of revolutionary mobilization,this concept was soon discontinued within the party.During the War of Liberation,Mao Zedong and other members of the CPC reused the concept of"independent work-ers".At the same time,they reinterpreted them as a part of"the people"and"workers"using the new democratic theory,and distinguished them from"the petty bourgeoisie".The spiral evolution of this concept reflects the complex process of the CPC's understanding for the small producer group and demonstrates the increasingly mature united front policy.关键词
