Effect of Eimeria tenella Infection on Inflammation Related Factors in Chicken Populations with Different Coccidia Resistance

Abstract
To investigate the effects of Eimeria tenella infection on immune response,oxidative stress,and the expression of inflammation-related genes in chicken populations with different levels of coccidial resistance,this study randomly divided Jinghai yellow chickens into Control group and Infected group.Based on relative weight gain rate,fecal oocyst count,oocyst index,cecal lesion score,and anticoccidial index,chickens were screened into Resistant group and Susceptible group.The levels of inflammatory cytokines and antioxidant indicators in blood,as well as the expression of inflammation-related genes in various tissues,were measured following E.tenella infection.The results showed that both Resistance and Susceptible groups exhibited extremely significant different activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),and concentration of reactive oxygen species(ROS)in blood compared with the Control group(P<0.01),but no significant differences in activities of SOD,CAT,and concentrations of ROS,nitric oxide(NO)were observed between the Resistance and Susceptible groups(P>0.05).However,the concentrations of interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-8(IL-8),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)in the blood were extremely significant higher in both the Resistance and Susceptible groups than in the Control group(P<0.01).Furthermore,IL-1β and TNF-α levels were extremely significant higher in the Susceptible group than in the Resistance group(P<0.01).Gene expression analyses in the cecal and thymus tissues showed that IL-6,IL-8,IL-1β,and TNF-α expression levels were extremely significant upregulated in both Resistance and Susceptible groups compared to the Control group(P<0.01),with IL-1β and TNF-α expression being extremely significant higher in the Susceptible group than in the Resistance group(P<0.01).Notably,the changes in IL-1β and TNF-α levels in blood corresponded closely with their expression trends in cecal and thymus tissues between the two groups.In conclusion,E.tenella infection significantly enhances immune activation,oxidative stress,and the expression of inflammation-related genes in chickens,with more pronounced effects in susceptible birds.关键词
