Abstract
Currently, research on canine parainfluenza virus(CPIV)in China is limited, and there may be cases where it is not sufficiently emphasized or detected in veterinary clinical practice. To raise awareness among clinical practitioners and supplement relevant clinical data, this study presents a retrospective analysis of 62 cases of CPIV infection diagnosed at the China Agricultural University Veterinary Teaching Hospital from 2019 to 2023.The results showed that all infected dogs were purebred, with 58.06%(36/62)being male and 41.94%(26/62)female.Dogs under the age of 1 accounted for 87.10%(54/62)of the cases. The primary clinical symptom was cough(91.94%,57/62).Among the 22 dogs that underwent additional screening for other pathogens,14(63.64%,14/22)had mixed infections, which included mixed infections with canine influenza virus(CIV)(n=3),canine distemper virus(CDV)(n=5),and Bordetella bronchiseptica(Bb)(n=6).Notably,one dog with a mixed infection of CIV and one with a mixed infection of CDV were euthanized after 10 and 16 days of treatment, respectively, due to no improvement in their condition.Three dogs with mixed infections of Bb,Bb and CIV improved after 8,9,and 21 days, respectively.Among the 50 dogs(92.59%,50/54),the C-reactive protein(CRP)was elevated to varying degrees.Chest X-ray results showed bronchitis or pneumonia in 33 of the 35 dogs(94.29%,33/35).The results suggest that CPIV mainly affects young dogs, with a high rate of mixed infections. It is recommended to screen young dogs with cough as the main symptom, elevated CRP,and signs of bronchitis or pneumonia, especially those newly adopted.关键词
