Abstract
To investigate the prevalence,risk factors,and treatment options for canine glaucoma in Beijing,this study conducted a statistical analysis of dogs diagnosed with glaucoma at the ophthalmology department of our hospital between 2019 and 2023.Data included sex,breed,age,treatment modalities,complications,and prognosis.Among 6 792 canine ophthalmology cases,287 dogs(320 affected eyes)were diagnosed with glaucoma.Of these,254 dogs had unilateral glaucoma and 33 had bilateral involvement.The average age at diagnosis was(6.0±4.1)years,with a statistically significant difference in prevalence across age groups(P<0.05).Among affected dogs,151(52.61%)were male(including neutered)and 136(47.39%)were female(including spayed).By breed,Toy Poodles(16.03%,46/287),Chinese Rural Dogs(12.54%,36/287),and Shiba Inus(11.85%,34/287)were the most commonly affected,with highly significant differences in breed prevalence(P<0.01).The main treatments were enucleation with orbital implant(41.88%,134/320)and eyeball removal(18.44%,59/320),followed by medical therapy(10.00%,32/320),Ahmed drainage valve implantation(6.56%,21/320),and intraocular injection of ciliary body drug ablation(1.88%,6/320).Postoperative outcomes showed that 4 dogs(4 eyes)receiving orbital implants subsequently underwent enucleation,and one eye that underwent eyeball removal required secondary surgery to remove intraocular filler.Among eyes treated with Ahmed drainage valve implantation,66.67%(14/21)maintained normal intraocular pressure and vision within 1 year.No re-injections were required after intraocular injection of ciliary body drug ablation.The findings indicate that breed and age are significant risk factors for canine glaucoma.While orbital implant and enucleation remain the mainstay treatments,Ahmed drainage valve implantation and intraocular injection of ciliary body drug ablation are viable alternatives with relatively high success rates.关键词
