A study on Pearl S.Buck's feminist thoughts in Of Men and Women:How to Be for Each Other

摘要
Abstract
Pearl S.Buck was actively involved in feminist activities through her writing and social activities and advanced the development of the cause of feminism.However,Pearl S.Buck's relevant contribution to American feminism has not been duly recognized in academia.Especially Pearl S.Buck's collection of essays Of Men and Women:How to Be for Each Other published on the eve of WWII in the U.S.has not been sufficiently studied.In the book Of Men and Women:How to Be for Each Other,Pearl S.Buck pointed out that the plight of men and women in the contemporary era in the United States lies in their inability to achieve mutual enjoyment because of the mutual dissatisfaction.The source of this problem is the fact that men and women respectively work and live in their separate spheres,thus failing to realize a mutual understanding on the spiritual level.In order to solve this dilemma,Pearl S.Buck advocated that both American men and women should make their own efforts in marriage,family,and career to promote personal happiness and social harmony.Although Pearl S.Buck led the development trend of feminist thoughts,her ideas had some limitations and thus should be evaluated objectively and fairly in academia.关键词
