Abstract

This article investigates the issue of transverse cracks on the surface of the edges of niobium-containing microalloyed steel slabs in Fujian Sangang.Through metallographic analysis and surface temperature measurement coMParison,it is found that the main reason for the generation of transverse cracks on the edges is that the edges of the cast slabs cool quickly and are prone to be in the third brittle zone during straightening.By referring to relevant materials and combining with the actual situation of our factory,two control schemes are developed.One is to reduce the spray water volume at the edges of the fan-shaped section to increase the temperature of the edges of the cast slab.The other is to conduct strong cooling of the mold foot roller spray to obtain fine ferrite with high surface plasticity.The test results show that after adopting weak cooling at the edges of the fan-shaped section,the surface defect rates of niobium-containing microalloyed steel for Slab No.1 and Slab No.2 decreased from 94.57%and 91.38%to 26.35%and 22.66%respectively.The research on the strong cooling of the mold foot roller shows that it can obtain fine ferrite with plasticity,providing another research direction for solving the edge cracking problem.
