Cationization and antibacterial modification of cotton fabrics based on polylysine

Abstract
Regarding the environmental issues caused by high salt usage and discharge of colored wastewater during the dyeing process,polycation biomacromolecule(polylysine,PLL)were used to implement the chemi-cal modification of cotton fabric for low salt reactive dyeing and enhanced antibacterial performance.The prepa-ration of PLL modified cotton fabric was carried out by the Schiff base reaction between oxidized cotton and PLL.PLL was covalently attached onto oxidized cotton,fabricating a cationic coating on the surface of cotton,resulting in good antibacterial ability and enhanced dye-fiber affinity.The antibacterial activity of PLL modified cotton was higher than 95%,and exceeded 70%after 10 cycles of washing.Compared with original cotton,PLL modified cotton had higher dye exhaustion and total dye fixation in the reactive dyeing.The total dye fixation of PLL modified cotton at 20 g/L sodium chloride was almost comparable with that of original cotton at 60 g/L so-dium chloride,indicating a reduction of salt dosage by two-thirds.关键词
