Forms of Filial Piety:The Construction and Contemporary Value of the Image of Bao Gong in Three Heroes and Five Gallants
摘要
Abstract
The Qing Dynasty novel Three Heroes and Five Gallants constructed the image of Judge Bao and composed the story of Bao's miraculous birth and growth.The story of Bao's birth and growth is very different from the historiographical literature.This creation is mainly for the sake of the reasonableness and legality of the image of Judge Bao.The portrayal of Judge Bao in Three Heroes and Five Gallants is linked to the concept of filial piety in Mencius.That is,through the story of his birth and upbringing,Bao is given the filial piety to be sharpened so that he can gain the power of judgement higher than that of the impe-rial power.This suggests that in both folk tales and Confucian classics,filial piety has rich manifestations and multiple functions.关键词
