Simulation study on the impact of mesoscale wind fields in typhoon periphery on wind farm power characteristics

Abstract

Based on the mesoscale weather forecast model coupled with the wind farm parameterization model,numerical simulations of wind farms in the coastal areas of the East China Sea were conducted to study the impact of Typhoon Maria(1808)on the wind field and overall power output of wind farms.The results indicate that the configured parameterization scheme used in the simulations can effectively replicate the characteristics and properties of near-surface wind speed and direction in the target typhoon's peripheral wind field.During the passage of the typhoon,the area near Xiangshan and northward in the Yangtze River Delta and the northeastern part of the East China Sea are within a favorable wind field with abundant wind resources,allowing for efficient power generation in the simulated wind farms.The typhoon induces inflows of different forms,directly causing fluctuations in power output and asynchronous power generation within individual turbines and the entire wind farm.High-speed inflow can compensate for the power losses caused by wake superposition.The mountainous terrain along the path of the typhoon significantly weakens the typhoon's wind speed,directly causing a reduction in the inflow wind speed to the wind farms located in the peripheral wind field of the typhoon.When the typhoon moves away and makes landfall,its residual effects still keep the wind farm in high wind speed areas,resulting in a slow decline and temporary rebound of the power output of the wind farm.
