Management Power,Entry Mode and Overseas Subsidiaries' Operating Performance:The Moderating role of Overseas Chinese Network

Abstract
The management power of multinational enterprises(MNEs)is very important for its overseas subsidiaries' op-eration.Based on the samples of overseas subsidiaries of Chinese A-share listed MNEs from 2010 to 2022,this paper em-pirically analyzes the effect mechanism between the management power of MNEs and the operating performance of its over-seas subsidiaries.The results show that the management power negatively affects the operating performance of overseas sub-sidiaries.Mechanism tests show that entry mode plays a mediating role between the two.The more powerful management is,the more it tends to choose the wholly-owned mode for its overseas subsidiaries,which in turn undermines the subsid-iaries' operating performance.Overseas Chinese business networks can weaken the relationship between entry mode and the operating performance of overseas subsidiaries.Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the negative impact of management power on the operating performance of host country overseas subsidiaries is more significant when the host country is located in a non-Belt and Road route,belongs to a country with a high level of economic development,or is in a non-Confucian cultur-al circle.This paper aims to provide enlightenment for Chinese multinational enterprises to optimize the management power balance mechanism in parent company,as well as to provide solutions to the problem of low performance of multinational enterprises' overseas investment.关键词
