Hydrodynamic assessment of an offshore bottom-supported aquaculture platform in uniform current

Abstract
A combined approach of numerical simulation and physical model experiments was employed to investigate the hydrodynamic behaviour of a bottom-fixed aquaculture cage equipped with double-layer nets.In the numerical simulation,the fishing net was simplified as porous media panels using the porous media model,and the frame structure was treated as a rigid wall.The flow field distributions under different inflow velocities,incident angles,and the absence of fishing nets were simulated based on the Realizable k-ε turbulence model.The numerical results were subsequently validated against physical measurements obtained from wave tank experiments,demonstrating good agreement between the two approaches.The findings indicate that double-layer nets significantly attenuate flow velocity,leading to sharp velocity gradients near the cage and forming a low-velocity zone in the downstream region.The presence of side nets was found to accelerate the shedding of wake vortices behind the central column,while bottom nets exhibited a relatively small impact on the flow velocity.Furthermore,the variation in incident wave direction had a relatively large impact on the velocity distribution inside and around the cage.From an engineering perspective,excessive structural dimensions of the cage framework should be avoided to minimize potential vortex-induced loads.关键词
