摘要

Abstract

In-depth study of aerosols has become increasingly important owing to the increasing prominence of polar atmospheric pollution and issues related to climate change.Aerosol optical depth(AOD)is one of the most important parameters used to characterize the optical properties of aerosols,and its correlation with atmospheric particulate matter and meteorological elements can be used to indicate the influence of aerosols on atmospheric pollution and climate.Currently,aerosol research is conducted primarily in mid-latitude re-gions.This is because limitations in observational continuity and remote sensing capabilities,particularly regarding the precision of satellite retrievals,restrict research on aerosols in polar regions.This review ana-lyzes the history,current status,and challenges of polar AOD research,provides an overview of progress in polar AOD research,and explores the constraints on in-depth investigations,such as ground-based observa-tions and satellite remote sensing,together with an appraisal of the reasons behind those constraints.
