Abstract
This paper conducts an in-depth quantitative analysis of the spatial atmosphere characteristics of traditional residential courtyards in four regions:Sichuan,Shanxi,Shaanxi-Gansu,and Huizhou.The aim is to explore both the inheritance and innovative application of these characteristics in modern architectural design.Through the measurement and statistical analysis of courtyard spatial dimensions,the study clarifies distinctive regional features concerning climate adaptability,cultural representation,and functional organization—for example,the deep eaves and transitional grey spaces of Sichuan dwellings,the central axis symmetry of Shanxi residences,the ecological and energy-saving wisdom of Shaanxi-Gansu cave dwellings,and the compact,introverted spatial arrangements of Huizhou houses.On this basis,the paper proposes practical implications for public architecture,residential design,and rural revitalization from the perspective of contemporary architectural practice,including an emphasis on spatial locality,functional optimization,and innovative cultural expression.The findings indicate that the design thinking of traditional courtyards not only fulfills modern architectural requirements but also communicates the unique value of regional cultures.Overall,this research provides systematic reference and inspiration for the integration of tradition and modernity in architectural practices within the intertwined contexts of globalization and localization.关键词
